Bryce Cotton

Bryce Cotton (he/him) is a percussionist, composer and educator based in Alberta, Canda. With his roots in folk guitar of the singer/songwriter genre, Bryce has been recognized for composing and performing percussion music that incorporates elements of the folk music tradition. As a composer, Bryce explores the translation of folk guitar into keyboard and battery percussion, and manipulates the folk genres standards to encompass and embody the demands of the percussion medium.

Outside of solo work, Bryce is a cofounder of the Omni Percussion duo, an Alberta based duo which aims to promote the growth of the percussion community in Canada. In contributing to this growth, Omni Percussion both composes original music and commissions music from local composers to foster the percussion repertoire emerging out of Canada. Omni has set out on a number of tours across western Canada, presenting masterclasses and performances at local events and within the public school system to educate audiences and showcase the possibilities of contemporary percussion music.

Bryce has served as an educator for the past seven years, teaching drum set, percussion, guitar, and music theory to students ranging from elementary to college skill level. As a private instructor, Bryce seeks to educate students in all areas of percussion including, classical, contemporary, and orchestral, as well as world percussion such as West-African, Arabic, Polynesian, and Chinese percussion. Many of Bryce’s students have won and continue to win gold medals for achieving top examination marks in Alberta from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Canada.

Bryce holds a B.mus in Percussion Performance from the University of Lethbridge and an M.M. in Percussion Performance from the University of Delaware. Bryce has studied with Adam Mason, Joe Porter, Dr. Gene Koshinski, and Dr. Tim Broscious.
